How to Create a Remodel Basement
If you are working on a remodel basement, you need to first plan the look and feel of the place. Are you planning to remodel the basement into a children’s room or a home office? The kind of activities you need to look at to remodel the basement will differ accordingly. So first and foremost in remodeling, the basement set up a layout plan depending on what you want to do with the place.
With the layout in hand, go down to the basement and look at the natural lighting the place has. If it does not have adequate lighting (which is quite likely), start thinking of options to light up the place. Floor lights on the sides of the stair case, lamps for a living space and desk lamps for an office are some options to think through. You could put in hidden fluorescent lighting in the ceilings too.
If you are looking at putting up a bar in the remodel basement, take measurements before buying the bar to ensure you get the right fit in the space. If you are looking at using it as bedroom, you will need to measure for the right size of a bed and for easy to assemble wardrobes. If you are working on a remodel basement that will be transformed into a living space, shelves to store books or DVDs will also have to be bought post- measuring. Measure, measure and measure again – don’t guess! You will land up with furniture and expenses you don’t need if you don’t measure carefully.
If you have a low ceiling in the basement, you may want to color and decorate it to. Try a light color. White may not hide dirt, but a nice shade of lemon will brighten up the room and decorate the ceiling as well. If you have high ceiling, you could opt for a darker color too. With a low ceiling, darker colors tend to take away form the comforting feel of the basement.
Keep these pointers in mind when building a remodel basement and you can’t go wrong!
